Periodically, I update the little "What I'm Listening To" list on the left side of website. Honestly, the list changes more rapidly than what is reflected on this site. The albums that show up on the left are ones I'm either "stuck" on, or were recently purchased...or both!
I tend to actually update the list when I start noticing that the stack of albums on my desk differ greatly from the list on the website. This typically happens when I am lucky enough to do some serious listening. For me, a key component of "serious listening" roughly translates to "loud listening."
There is no conversation possible when I'm doing some "serious listening." At this very moment, I'm "seriously listening" to "The Mars Volta." The rest of my family is at a rehearsal. I'm at home doing some work (bad) and counter-acting the bad with some "serious listening." (good)
I'm a gigantic fan of rock music, so this is generally what the albums are pulled from...although the last version of the list had a jazz fusion album listed. I am also a big classical fan, but these don't tend to get stuck on my desk, or CD player. The list at left is pretty straight rock, except for the wild and crazy Mars Volta (very good loud!), and the Steve Hackett - who was once the guitar player in Genesis. I tend towards the progressive rock items like Mars Volta and Steve Hackett.
The albums listed span a 38 year release range! I had also forgotten how good The Police were, and probably had never heard them played through as nice a speaker system as I have now. (Polk Audio bookshelf speakers and sub-woofer, plus a $5-10 garage sale amplifier).
Enough work avoidance for me...back to the tasks at hand.

Do you know I sit by Dana (the Mamalogues lady) every Wednesday? I'll tell her you're a big fan. :-)

I'm sure she knows! I comment frequently on her site. I always wondered if any of the homeschoolers at church knew her. Don't all of the homeschoolers hang out at a clubhouse somewhere or something?
