We have three non-caged creatures living in our house - although research is starting to indicate that perhaps they should be caged. Two are cats, one is a dog. There is not a single paring of them that actually gets along. In fact, they literally fight like cats and dogs...and frequently like cats and cats.
However, as soon as we are not looking or we leave the house, these same war-like creatures will cast aside their differences and unite in peace and harmony to serve a single higher purpose:
TO GET THE HUMAN'S FOOD OUT OF THE CABINETS!
Yes, the cats will even jump on the counter, open the cabinet doors, climb the shelves, and pass any food-like substance down, bucket-brigade style, to the dog. They will leave no cabinet unopened. They will even empty trashcans. Then they will all merrily have a glorious feast together, toasting their good fortune.
And I figured that we were safe not having child locks on the cabinets with our youngest being six!
It could be worse, though. I happened to see a video on "America's Funniest Home Videos" the other day that featured a dog trying to break into the refrigerator. The owners had literally bungee-corded (new verb!) the refrigerator door shut, but the dog continued to try to get in the door.
Last Sunday, when we returned home from church, we were met with the evidence of a recent feast to end all feasts in the house. This evidence included one very sheepish dog who, due to the vast scale of the mess, couldn't pretend like nothing had happened while we were away.
I don't think anything else needs to be said. The pictures speak for themselves.

Just stumbled across your site - those photos are priceless. So funny.

Wow. Boy, your pup knew s(he) was in BIG trouble! Good thing you all had just come home from church, or else you might not have been as forgiving. :) Man, I'm just sitting here shaking my head laughing.

Yeah, she knew she was in trouble. We just came in and said, "oh man, someone's been a BAD dog" and that is how sheepish she looked.
I debated putting the picture on the site, because it looks like she thinks she's getting smacked! It's hard to tell from the photo, but she is just slinking next to the ground. It was pretty funny.

We can relate. We have 2 young poodles and a golden-doodle. The retriever comes out in Bailey all of the time. She loves squirrels, rabbits and birds. She actually caught a rabbit and killed it. Not our intent! We went through the 3 old dog senario and now we have dogs a year apart. Zoe 18 months, Baily 2 1/2 and Cocoa 3 1/2. Dogs are great fun even if they do get in trouble. They're worth it! Aunt Linda

Great....we can relate. We have 3 young dogs. Two of them love each other, and the 3rd is quite reserved at 3 1/2. Zoe is 18 months and full of energy, followed by Bailey who loves rabbits, birds and squirrels. She is a golden-doodle and the retriever really comes out in her. Zoe pulls her hair, ears and tail and Bailey just loves it. They romp around the house like young kids. Great website...I'll be checking in from time to time. Thanks
