Way back on Monday, I posted the fantastic news that my wife won an "Arts for Life" award for her performance in "Narnia - The Musical" last fall. It seems like there is so much to say, and show, from this past weekend, but I also don't want to bore everyone with an "old" topic!
So, this will be the last you hear about this, unless I get a Flickr album together for this event.
The "Arts for Life" extravaganza for this weekend started on Saturday afternoon for us. My oldest daughter, Rebecca, and my award-winning wife, Dianne, had to head to the theater to rehearse for a musical number that would be performed at the show.
The photo below is of my youngest daughter taking pictures of them rehearsing. I love this shot! It's my favorite picture from last weekend. (All pictures in this post can be clicked to get a slightly larger version!)
Dianne's parents insisted on coming for the awards...in fact, a lot of her family did, but we were able to convince most of them not to come for 30 seconds of the show...even if she won! Well, her parents were not to be discouraged, so they arrived in St. Louis early evening on Saturday.
The picture below is of Rachel and Dianne's mother standing on a balcony at a Bed and Breakfast in Lafayette Square.
Since we had just a couple of hours we could spend with them, we decided to walk down the street to some of the fantastic restaurants in the area for dinner and visiting. Plus, this would give us a chance to show them even more of the reasons why we love St. Louis!
We chose SqWires as the place to eat. The food was incredible! We had seafood appetizers, including clams, mussels, shrimp, oysters and plus salmon. The pictures below are of my wife with her father, my oldest daughter ACTUALLY EATING CLAMS AND LIKING THEM, and the leftover shells on my plate from the seafood.
After SqWires, we walked across the street to Baileys' Chocolate Bar (picture posted yesterday for Wordless Wednesday) and had deserts, chocolate Martini's (which are amazing, btw) and had fun with their Alice in Wonderland bathroom. By this time, I believe we wore out and noised out Dianne's parents, so we walked them back to the B&B and headed home.
The next day was Sunday, and Dianne had a drama to perform in that required her to be there at 7:30AM, and then we had our regular services to attend and perform in (I played a lot of guitar this week, too!). After this, we had our mad rush to get ready and get to the theater in time for the Award Show. We sped home, got into our spiffy evening-wear and my tux, rushed to Lafayette Square to pick up Dianne's parents and went directly to the show.
Just because she was so gorgeous, I'm including another gratuitous picture of Dianne in the lobby before the show. Oh, and check out those cool shoes!
Of course, then there was the whole receiving the award section, which I covered on Monday. During the second half of the show, both my wife and daughter were involved in a performance from "Godspell", which was a musical they also did last year with Bravo Theater Company. It was nominated for "Best Large Ensemble Musical", which is why they performed at the award show. "Godspell" didn't win for this, but did get three other awards including for best music direction.
In the first picture, my daughter Rebecca is the standing girl in blue on the right. In the second, my wife is in pink, with pink leggings (just to the right of the center girl) and my daughter is on the far right.
After the award show, there was a group photo of all the award winners. I snuck a photo at the same time! My wife is the 5th from the right, in the back row. The man on the far right, back row, is Joel Hackbarth, who was the director for "Narnia - The Musical."
Finally, the last photo is of the cast members from "Narnia - The Musical" that came to the awards show. SEVEN of them had received nominations. Isn't that great?! Notice that our director...CAN'T be directed. He's not looking at the camera. Bad Joel!
So, that's it for this years awards. I'll post links if I ever make a Flickr set, or if the "Arts for Life" website posts pictures.
