If you spend any time reading blogs (please, please, please say you do!) or twitter, you know that food is a favorite topic. Some people are food snobs, others are food braggarts (as I am anytime I have a nice sirloin!), other spend too much time in the McDonalds drive-thru.
Amazingly, you'll find that relatively few foods pop to the top of the class, so to speak, as all around favorites. So few, in fact, that I had to improvise by polling twitter users just to come up with a top ten list! In fact, numbers one and two are SO dominant, that the remaining eight are orders of magnitude behind.
So now, in reverse order (from least popular to most popular) are the ten favorite foods of the internet.
10. Sushi. Sushi doesn't make a lot of sense to me. I'm assuming that the fact that sushi is raw is a time saver, but then sushi chefs make it so pretty that all that time saved by not cooking is just wasted on the artistic side of things. You should be spending that time commenting on "One Dad's Life." Seriously. Work on the priorities. At least drop some sushi off for me. Nominated by "urbanathlete" on twitter.
9. Desert. Yes, Sarah nominated a whole food category...even if that category falls in the "Misc" section of the food pyramid. Of course, it really is hard to argue with this one!
8. Rebecca nominated several items, but my favorite was simply "cheese." For some reason, just saying "cheese" makes me smile!
7. Wine. While technically not a food category, I'm certain it is only a matter of time before the government recognizes the proper place in the pyramid for this daily essential! The biggest wine fan I know on the internet is Matt. He also has great taste in cameras! (Fellow Nikon D60 owner.)
6. Honey Crisp Apples. My friend Mel spoke of these last week, and she is right. I could barely make it to the checkout lane without the wonderful aroma of these apples nearly knocking me over. Wow. Since that mention, I've discovered the online world is simply abuzz about these premium apples.
5. Ted Drewes. While technically a subset of dessert, and perhaps even ice cream/custard, there is no one who says, "Let's go get some custard at Ted Drewes." Nope. They say, "Let's go get some Ted Drewes!" It's in a class by itself...and deserves it's own spot. Here's a link to my favorite pictures of Ted Drewes!
4. Beef. This entry comes from my wife and since she probably watches me while I'm sleeping, I want to make sure she is happy with me! Also, technically she comes from the internet because she participates in that whole Facebook fad thing. Get a blog, Dianne! There, I've said it. We frequently grill sirloins on weekends. We get them from "Steak Paradise" - Kenrick's Meat Market. Also, every Christmas day we make an incredible whole beef tenderloin from Kenrick's. Be very very nice to me and get an invite!
3. Barbecue Pork Steaks. Hey it's my list and I live in St. Louis, so pork steaks are right up here at number three. If you don't like it, make your own list. Pork fat rules! Also, here are a couple I grilled a few weeks ago:
2. Cupcakes. I'm not exactly sure what the appeal is, but there are whole stores in St. Louis dedicated to cupcakes, and of course websites. I also once promised every St. Louis twitterer and blogger a cupcake on my blog's anniversary. If this ever pans out, I'll have to contract with Stef to deliver! By the way, Stef's husband is also an amazing photographer. Here's a free link unrelated to food. You'll be amazed.
And now, the number one food on the internet: (drum roll please!)
1. Bacon!
If you doubt the supremecy of bacon, I dare you to find a day on my twitter timeline, or in the community of St. Louis bloggers that doesn't have MANY mentions of bacon. Again with the pork fat thing!
Agree with the list? Disagree with the list? That's what the comments section is for!

I enjoyed reading your delicious top ten list. Now I am hungry. Thanks a lot!

You pretty much can't go wrong with any pork product....but BACON is the best!! yummmmm bacon. I have been deprived of real bacon for far too long...we do turkey bacon 99% of the time in my house for health reasons. Which is fine, most of the time I suppose....except when I think about REAL bacon.....

yummmmm.... this could be one of my favorite blog posts. of ALL TIME.
And, I have to comment on those Honey Crisp apples. They are fruit perfection.
Your list is surprisingly accurate. . . sushi, dessert, ted drewes, beef, wine. I'm now craving all of it and it's not even 9 am.

In Seattle there is such a thing as bacon salt. It is quite popular.

Great list and thanks for the shout out! Have you tried the apple butter bacon ice cream at Serendipity yet?

I have to agree with the Honey Crisp Apples. They have to be the world's best apples but are on the pricey side. For just 6 apples I paid $9.72 yesterday ...about 10c a bite!

Okay, I LOVE this post, too. I didn't know Honey Crisps were a sensation. I only know that I am already getting the shakes waiting for them to be out of season. I got to have me some apples! I was surprised you didn't list chicken. Shouldn't that be #1? I'll do a food post next week. Found an awesome site!
